An annulment action can be filed against the refusal before the administrative court, or a new application can be made after remedying the deficiencies. Since Law No. 7589 closed appeal to the Council of State in foreigners and international protection disputes, careful handling of the first-instance and regional appeal stages has become even more important.

An action against a deportation order must be filed before the administrative court within seven days of service of the order. If the action is filed in time, as a rule the foreigner is not deported until the proceedings are concluded; the authority that issued the order must also be notified that an action has been filed.

The detained foreigner or their lawyer may apply to the criminal judgeship of peace against the order. This application is a separate process from the annulment action against the deportation order.

An application can be made to the Presidency of Migration Management to lift or shorten an entry ban; a negative response can be challenged before the administrative court. The length of the ban and the conditions for lifting it vary depending on the type of code.

Foreigners who have resided in Türkiye on residence permits for at least eight years without interruption may apply for a long-term residence permit if they meet the other conditions in the law. Periods spent on student and humanitarian residence permits are counted differently.

Ordinary naturalisation requires five years of uninterrupted residence in Türkiye immediately before the application. Those married to a Turkish citizen for at least three years and those who make an investment of a set amount may apply through exceptional routes; the investment thresholds are updated from time to time.
